All Region Golf Award....

We were pretty darn proud of Josh this golf season.  He had a lot of really great moments and some heartbreaking ones as well.  He started out really strong and was ranked 3rd or 4th in the region for the first half of the season.  He then had a few rough breaks where he broke his putter and had to start mid season with a new one.  A week or so later he also ended up breaking the head off his driver and had to get a new one.  It just kinda of disrupted his rhythm and shook his confidence and he ended on a few bad rounds.....the team also let the nerves get to them and they didn't perform their best at region or state.  It was such a heartbreaker to see such great golfers not get to show their stuff.

BUT, let's concentrate on all the amazing things Josh did this season.  He placed in the top 10 in the first 7 tournaments and in the top 5 for many of those.  He placed in the top 3 on SkyView at most tournaments, even coming in 1st a time or two.  He also earned exemption status later in the season.  This means towards the end of the season, he didn't have to qualify to play in the tournaments and he had a guaranteed spot on the region and state team.  It was fun to see him mentioned and quoted in the local newspaper and even wake up to his sweet little face on the front upper corner of the paper.

Josh had already had a couple bad tournaments by the time region rolled around and didn't perform his best at region either.  I thought for sure he had lost his status in the region rankings.  But we were jumping up and down when we realized he had still done well enough to make the Top 10 in the whole region.  They awarded him a medal and we were so excited for him.

Josh made a lot of great friends from other schools this season.  This picture is with a boy from Roy, Jace.  They became good friends and played in a lot of the tournaments together.  Josh really enjoyed this season and having friends made those long days less stressful and more enjoyable.  

It has been his dream to play college golf but we found out sadly that we had a misunderstanding with the counselor at school so going into his second trimester he was short 5 classes needed for NCAA requirements.  And it was just crazy because he's hasn't taken easy classes but they are very specific about what type of classes are required.  Anyway we tried to squeeze it all in and we thought we had it worked out but he had to drop some of his concurrent enrollment classes and take early morning seminary.  After a lot of thought and prayer, he decided he didn't know if that was the right route for him.  So we decided to add his college classes back in.  It was hard to watch him give up something he's dreamed about for so long but at the same time, we told him that if he gets back from his mission and decides he wants to play there are many options to get him to that point and we can worry about it then.  We know he is destined for great things and are so grateful that he is prayerful about the decisions he is making in his life right now.

They had a great closing banquet and it was crazy to see all these seniors giving their last remarks and advice to the rest of the team.  It seems like yesterday when he was a freshman and we were listening to the seniors give him advice.  Absolutely crazy!  We will miss going to those long tournaments and sitting on the edge of the golf cart the entire 6-7 hours.  We love you bud and are so proud of who you are.

Coach Terrell is an amazing guy.  Josh has loved him and will definitely go into withdrawals without him.  He has been such a great mentor and was ALWAYS positive and uplifting to the boys.
